FDA Approves Barr Pharma’s Plan B

Again, this shows how our government is completely and utterly for corporations rather than for the best interest of the people. As in yesterday’s Wall Street Journal article, I think this is going to be a huge success for Barr Pharmaceuticals (Quote: BRL) and any of the big pharmas out there like Merck (Quote: MRK) or Sanofi-Aventis (Quote: SNY) who can quickly jump on the bandwagon, but at what price? I believe this is going to be a medical disaster 5 to 20 years down the road, but no one cares about that- not even the women who are taking these pills who would very likely get cancer and/or need major operations .

If you’ve read some of my posts in the Health & Medicine category, you know I’m strongly against western medicine, including such drugs as Plan B who has no track record and the risks outweigh the benefits. Yes, I might be paranoid, but take a look at this quote from the Wall Street Journal’s article on Plan B:

When taken within 72 hours following unprotected sex, the product reduces the risk of pregnancy by as much as 89%. Scientists believe the resulting surge of hormones interferes with ovulation and fertilization or may potentially prevent implantation of a fertilized egg in the uterus.

It is never ok to go against nature, meaning affecting the body’s natural cycle and chemical balance. I have nothing against using condoms and such, get jiggy as much as you want with that. I see people taking this as a greenlight to be more cavalier and unresponsible because they have a “safety net” after that drunk night. Yeah, many justify taking such drugs once they made “that one night mistake” because getting pregnant and having a child would screw up their life plan. Let me ask those people this: what life plan will you be living out exchanging that child for medical problems and medical bills that’ll put you in debt for the rest of your life?

Don’t think so? Think you’re young and healthy though to take these hits to your health? Think you can make enough money to cover the bills? Hmm. Just look at the elderly now who, having been born in a time where there weren’t so many “experimental drugs” that messes with your body chemistry, are already being buried under thousands ($$) in medical bills each month. They get full just taking the pills, they don’t even need food! Still, what an expensive drug-diet that is.

And Barr Pharma’s CEO Bruce Downey saying he wants to eliminate the age restriction for Plan B’s sale over the counter? “Yes, lets get the younglings too, those are a big group that makes bad sexual decisions” Ok no, he didn’t actually say that, but that’s what I heard. How transparent are these big pharmas doing anything to make a buck, and the FDA backing them up? I thought the FDA was supposed to regulate food and drugs and protect the public, not protecting big pharmas profits. Guess I was wrong.

I’d still buy stocks like Merck (Quote: MRK) and Sanofi-Aventis (Quote: SNY), especially in Fed-fear environment, but I don’t condone their methods. But what can you do? Especially with the FDA obviously in bed with these CEOs, all you can do is to invest in these comnpanies and take the gains for some ACTUAL charitable cause. Maybe building hospitals to house all these people who will be severely sick in a few years.
