Yesterday, Wednesday, October 12th, Bank of America Corporation (BAC) blindsided all of the online brokers (TD Ameritrade (AMTD), E*Trade (ET), Charles Schwab (SCHW)) and their mothers with this bomb: 30 Free Online Trades each month for customers with at least $25,000 in deposits or other accounts at Bank of America! Other brokerages have tried the free trading plan before, but Bank of America’s unexpected jump into offering online trading is a force to be reckond with as Bank of America is the nation’s #2 bank. You have to start wondering what kind of accountants our government has when prisoners receive more of our tax dollars than our college students. For many states, it costs 2 or 3 times more to keep a criminal in jail than to put your kid through college. The worst part to me is we have no choice buy to pay taxes to keep criminals in jail, but we have to put up the tuition for our children out of our own pockets in addition to the taxes. When I see injustice (no pun intended…sort of) of this kind, especially with my money, I’m annoyed but I also look to get back some of that tax money through stock investments: Corrections Corp. of America (CXW). If you bought stocks of the stores you go to or brands you just have to have, you’d probably be much richer than you are now (even if you bought on sale or with a coupon). When a store or brand makes a lot of money, do they thank you with extra discounts? Probably not. Its the company and the stock holders who share pieces of the money pie, and it’s very delicious. Get this: I think shoppers and fashionistas have the perfect skills to make money in the stock market. I’ve been waiting for DivX, Inc. (DIVX) come public ever since I heard about their plan for an IPO (Initial Public Offering, when you are first able to buy a company’s stock publically in the stock market). DivX has the best quality and dependability for digital videos in my opinion and should do well going forward as more and more movies and video are in the digital format and are available online.
